I hope it's okay to take 300 seconds on the 1st day.

You guys know what I'm going to say, right? Being able to look up a word in a dictionary like Wehr is an integral skill and, although the software has its place, it cannot replace that skill. You know this; I'm just reminding (myself included).

Being able to use it quickly comes with time and exercises your Sarf (among other things). I've used this dictionary for about 4 years... let's see how long it takes to look up the word Riyaa... and go......

Okay I'm back. I had to figure out that the base letters were R Hamza Y and then look those up in form III. Alhamdulillah, it took 14 seconds. But I couldn't have done that without lots of practice. I'm sure with a little more practice, all of you can shave that down to 10 seconds inshAllah.

Happy Wehr-ing.
Walaikum Assalam bro,

JazakAllah for the reminder. I totally agree with what you said. I do know (I think) how to use the dictionary and yes, it is helpful in figuring out the base letters etc.

However, you would agree that it definitely is time-consuming for beginners...and when I am short on time for preparing my readings, I just use Verbace as an alternative.

Anyway, I will try to use Hans-Wehr more often in the future.

Wassalaam

Assalam u alaikum,

Ok, following bro Mohtanic's advice, I have now started using Hans-Wehr as a primary source and only use Verbace when it's absolutely necessary... or when I'm lazy

There definitely are benefits in using Hans-Wehr so if you have the time and patience, I suggest you (reading this message) give it a try.

I took up the advice about using Hans-Wehr, and I found it to be much more beneficial in learning vocabulary. It is a lot easier than I thought. I've gotten my look up down to about 20 seconds, and I get to know the mudhari version of the word along with the various baabs.

I have the 3rd edition from Librairie du Liban.

However, verbace does help me in finding words from English to Arabic. Additionally, I was able to run the OCR (optical character recognition) on the pdf version of Hans-Wehr and I am able to search for English text from Hans-Wehr as well.
