Default Misc questions for week 16

1-Why do some words have an alif written as a ya. an example is the verb istafa.
2-In QS week 16 intro ie the non vowelled text line 7 the word رَغْبَةً is mafool mutlaq. It is nakira but is not followed by an alif. Do all mansoob nouns not come with an alif to indicate nasb?

1. This is because the alif was changed from a ya based on a sarf rule.

2. If the word ends in the round ta of femininity, it will not be accompanied with the silent alif in nasb. It's just standard.

In yesterdays class Ustadh mentioned the following regarding the word قَبْلُ.

1-This word can come as both mabni and murab.
2-This word will only be murab when it comes as mudaaf.
3-When it comes as mudaaf it will have a fatha by default and will come as mafool fi.
4-When in mudaaf if preceeded by a harf jar it will be kasra.
5-When the word comes alone ie not as mudaaf if will be mabni with a kasra.

My question is. Does this also hold true for the word بَعْدُ

That would be mabni on dhammah

Yes, it would. Along with خَلْف, أَمَام, تَحْتَ, فَوق (I can't remember whether there's one more).. These are called "ghayaat" [adverbs that indicate upon direction]

Default salams

My Dear brothers and sisters
salamun alaykum.

I would like to formally introduce my self to your honored group.
I just joined the class in Feb 2010 and am still navigating around the zone. I have just finished 3 classes and read the first reading lesson.

I am based in Dar Es Salaam- Tanzania.
We are GMT + 3 HRS , kindly assist in telling me what time ( In GMT) are the classes conducted.
Sh.Mullan gave me option to either catch up with your class or I wait for the March class- I thought I would be able to catch up but I now see its not easy given the little time I have at my disposal.

I wish you all best of luck in your studies

Welcome to the forum, Brother Kazim.

I think the catchup phase is over now. The October class is very far ahead. insha Allah, just take your time and get through as many weeks as possible before March 27. The further you're able to get, the more manageable it will be when the live classes start up again.
